How can UIF help you as an employee?
UIF provides financial support if you’ve been retrenched, taken maternity leave, or can’t work due to illness.
In South Africa, domestic workers must be registered with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) if they work more than 24 hours per month, ensuring they receive unemployment benefits and other protections.
Registration Requirements
Who Must Register: Any domestic worker who works for more than 24 hours per month is required to be registered with the UIF. This includes all domestic employees, regardless of their employment status (part-time or full-time).
Employer Responsibilities: As an employer, you are legally obligated to register both yourself and your domestic worker with the UIF. This registration must be completed as soon as employment begins.
